Six More Weeks of Winter

Written on 2-22-21.

I am attending a webinar from Graves Golf, and it’s called “6 More Weeks of Winter Training.”  I learned that a 7-iron should be 1/2” or 1” shorter for the distance from the front of my feet than the 6-iron, so if the 6-iron is 26”, the 7-iron should be 25” or 25.5”.

Also, always have square shoulders.  Keep it simple.  This is the same for full swings, pitches, chips, and putts.  Have square shoulders to the target line.

Look for the 90, 90 drill?

I never found it, the 90, 90 drill.  Oh, well.  I have found some other things, though.  I will write about those things tomorrow.

I am viewing another YouTube video on a Sunday after mass.  It’s called Decoding Moe Norman’s Single Plane Swing Series, and it’s Part 3 today.  I am learning about why he kept his feet down throughout the swing, even after impact and all the way through to the follow-through.  Moe is talking about how his left big toe never moves.  I know that some of what he says isn’t true, but he is describing the feelings he has.  I think that is both.  That big toe probably doesn’t move much, if at all.  I like Moe.  He says, “Watch,” before he swings sometimes.  I think he enjoyed showing...

Getting Serious About the Single Plane Swing

Written on 2-21-21.

It’s another Sunday, and I am making the time to do some writing today while watching the Genesis Invitational.  I want to catch up how everything’s been going, since I paid for one month of the Single Plane Gold Membership, because I have been doing a lot of work.  Yesterday, I completed every drill and every rep that they have asked me to for the first eight lessons of the 14 Day Perfect Practice Plan.  I will paste it in here again to show the updates…

2-10, Lesson 1-50 reps of replace the shoulder with right shoulder

2-11, Lesson 2-20 reps of feeling the side tilt with the single plane trainer (my single plane trainer)

2-12, Lesson 3-20 reps of getting into ideal address position with proper grip and a focus on the two lines being created

2-13, Lesson 4-20 reps of using my single plane trainer to point at the golf ball 5’ back and 1’ back, just the one piece takeaway motion

2-14, Lesson 5-20 reps of 3 positions (0 to 1 to 2 with 2 being at the top of the backswing with my single plane trainer pointing at the golf ball 5’ back and 1’ back from there two times, once on the way back and once on the way down

2-18, Lesson 6-To impact 20 reps with single plane trainer thing, so positions 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4, lead knee braced and trail arm bent

2-18, Lesson 7, 20 reps with perfect impact club with my impact bag, positions 0, 1 2, 3, and 4 into the bag (ball underneath it) with some velocity from 3 to 4

2-19, Lesson 8, working on 20 reps of positions 4, 5, and 6, impact (into a flexed lead knee, lead arm completely straight, trail arm still bent, but only slightly, and side tilt still going on) extension (straighten trail arm after the ball, and it naturally rolls over), shoulder height/finish/hold at top with focus on staying in your bends

I chose to skip my treadmill workout, too, to make sure I got in every rep.  It was physically taxing, and although I wasn’t super focused at times, it took me three hours.  I was steadily working through it, though, and I just took breaks in between sets.

Overall, it’s been excellent, and I like...

My 54th Birthday! Just Happy to Have Made It This Far

Written on 1-19-21.

I played 18 holes yesterday, and it was encouraging.  I even filmed my swing on the last two holes, the first time I’ve ever done that before.

This round gave me a chance to learn how to use my new Garmin, too, and it was fortunate to have such a pleasant weather day.  The high was just over 50ยบ, and I took off my sweatshirt for the middle of the round.  I earned three pars, and I should have earned four, but I triple-putted #17.  I also earned six bogeys.  Not bad considering I haven’t played, and I am still learning the new swing.

I am still working on the proper head movement.  Todd says the head should move, and it should do so while staying in the “general area” I put it in at address.  For example, when I use my driver, I set the golf ball position even with my front heel, and that puts my body position in the correct place, and that also puts my head...

Starting 2021 With Hope

Written on 1-1-21.

What another cool date in numbers.  Happy New Year!  Here I go again.  This year, I am thankful for the swing change that I’m undertaking; it has rejuvenated my game and me.  I am obsessed with it, and that is a better thing than being depressed.

It’s a New Year’s Day on a Friday this time, and I just remembered that I should go to church.  I’ll be right back.

It’s about an hour later now, and I just “attended” mass at the Archdiocese of Bombay on YouTube.  Beautiful mass.  It’s been a beautiful day here, also.  B and I had a celebratory brunch with eggs, pancakes, and bacon just before noon.  We took some time to send our Prezi out to everyone we could think to share it with after that, and then James helped us clean up all of the Christmas decorations.

I am now watching Part 3 in the Winter Series that Todd Graves did last month.  I have one more to watch after that.  I am using the Catalyst App to record Todd’s swing.  I find that really helps when I watch those videos of his golf swing every day.

I also watched the video where he talks about keeping his head still, and he says it is more a matter of body position.  If he gets the body position correct, his head won’t move until impact.  That brings up another thing he said.  After impact, the head does need to move forward and through the shot.  Yet one other thing I remembered was that his head does drop slightly when he bumps his lead hip forward as he begins his downswing.  I see my head moving down when I go into impact, too, but it goes down too far, and it also moves forward way too much.  I am hoping...
