B, Kody, and I are hanging out in the living room at Vallecito. We head back home in a couple of hours, and we are wringing out the last bit of freedom from this summer. Once again, a cabin in the mountains is the best place to do that. We plan on ordering a “take and bake” pizza on our way home at Elmore’s, and I am so excited for the traditional peach cobbler later tonight, too. We meet with Jim and Sylvia at 7:00 to have our annual event. It is always soooo tasty, and Sylvia always says it’s because it is made with love.
I drove back to Aztec yesterday to meet the landscapers. We are hiring (company name) to reseed our lawn with buffalo grass. Nick and Wilbur (not their real names) are young (mid-twenties? early thirties?) and don’t communicate in a manner I would prefer, but we hired them anyway. Quimby (not his real name either), who had done some work for us before, recommended them. The sod scraper they rented broke its belt, so they had to...
go get another one. The second one from a different rental company looked brand new, and they finished the job with ease. Nick said they would come back on Monday to remove the sod. I am so looking forward to having a new lawn, a lawn with buffalo grass, the grass I originally wanted.I stayed until they were done, and I got in a workout. I also sent off my Fitbit via UPS to have it repaired. After one year, the heart rate sensor stopped working. I did a factory reset to no avail. Hopefully, it can be fixed and it will be a quick turnaround. Or, maybe it will be replaced. Either way, it would be nice to have a watch that does all the things it’s supposed to do.
On to golf…
When we played at White Pine, another fun thing happened that I haven’t written about yet. Many of the holes had large greens that were sloped. The back of the greens were higher, and many pins were put towards the back, too.
When we got to hole #5, Eric hit his drive out to the left, and it gave him some tree trouble for his approach. Then he loused that up and duffed it out to the right, but it did end up in the fairway. I told him it would be better to be short, because if he went long, he would have a nearly impossible up and down. He would have to contend with the hill, the longer grass, and very little green to work with.
He then proceeded to put the ball long anyway. I finished up with a bogey, and I felt I would certainly win the points for this hole after he did that.
Sure enough, his pitch shot back towards the hole landed short in the tall grass and got stuck above it. I knew he could, and probably would, pitch in his fifth shot for a tying bogey, but the odds were hardly in his favor. To get in with only two shots would have been excellent from there. I thought he might end up with a triple bogey, too.
Well, guess what happened. He chipped it in! It was beautiful. His club landed right behind his ball, clipping it out precisely. It landed and began rolling towards the hole, and then it eased in like a short putt. It was amazing, honestly.
I should have been rattled, but like I said, I thought he could make it. This was also the beginning tying hole for what ended up being “the controversy.” We tied the next hole, and then we came to the par five where he didn’t concede my putt, the par five #7. We laughed, and I congratulated him over and over again. It was a great shot.
I also lost to Herman (not his real name) by one stroke on the back the last time I played at Pinon Hills. I shot a 43 to his 42. He showed up late, so he missed the first two holes. We gave him doubles on those first two holes, because that is what I got. With those two higher scores, he still shot an 84. I shot a respectable 88. At least that’s respectable for me. My last two scores have been in the eighties, and that makes me very happy. He didn’t beat me by ten strokes this time.
I didn’t play this past week. Today is Friday. I watered at the Edgerton’s on Monday, and then we got ready to come here and I did a workout on Tuesday. I might go play next week, but I am also thinking about going back to Colorado Springs. I spoke with Darrell, and he said they are getting together again at Tammy’s bar again on the 10th. That’s next Saturday. He said Fred is performing again and that’s the reason. I just don’t know what I’ll do. I am freaking out a bit, because school starts for Belinda on Monday. I feel a big change is coming.
Until next time…
