The Beginning of the 2026 Star Wars Trading Card Project

Written on 3-1-26.

I am in the computer room, and I am listening to an old, favorite song of mine.  It’s called No Turning Back, and it’s by The Sherbs.  I would stop writing, but there is no turning back now.  It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and the temps will be in the 60’s again this week.  It was an unusually warm February.  I do see some temps in the 50’s coming after this week, though, so winter is not quite done yet.

I had another workout with Matthew; I have eight left for this round.  I really don’t want to waste the workouts this time with bad eating.  I thought I could replace my energy with whatever I wanted; they were hard workouts.  You can’t out exercise a bad diet, but I foolishly tried it again the last two rounds.  When will I learn this lesson?  I got stronger, but I could have made such better gains if I had eaten healthier.

Belinda and I are trying something new with...

our eating.  We have been cutting out sugar.  We don’t have dessert anymore.  We are cutting out added sugars, too.  We have been eating healthy meals.  Normally, we would have a dessert after every dinner, and we would also use the weekend to gobble whatever we wanted.  Not anymore.  She is cutting out cookies!  She didn’t buy any Girl Scout cookies this year, for heaven’s sake.  I am cutting out creamer!  I haven’t had creamer in my coffee for about three weeks now.  I didn’t think I could do that either.  I have drunk coffee with Fairlife, almond milk, or organic milk (left here by the Edgertons) instead, and I whip it up with the frothing gadget I got from Mom and Dad.  It’s been fine so far.  A few headaches, but we also feel much better/lighter.

Speaking of the Edgertons, they came home today.  This time, they went to the Cayman Islands to scuba dive again.  Matt, Becca, and Ben joined them.  Belinda is over at their house now.  She left from her “church” (Jess’s house) and went there directly.  When she is away from her twin, it can be rough at times.  However, she has been really happy this past week.  I am happy A is back, though.  She makes Belinda happier.

I started selling stuff on eBay this past week.  I got my first sale!  Then it dried up.  I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I know what I want.  I want to sell all the Star Wars stuff that I don’t enjoy/love anymore, and then put that money towards the 2026 trading cards project.  I started with some Star Wars books I no longer want, but they haven’t garnered the views.  I will continue to list more items this week.  So far, it has been low stress and fun.

Danielle and Rob have had five dates now!  It is a miracle!  He is a bright spot in her life, and that makes me so happy.  I’m looking forward to meeting this guy.  I like his name.  I heard he baked chocolate chip cookies for a 90-year old friend’s birthday party, and he wants to come camping with all of us at the Jemez group site.  He sounds down to earth and kind.  I hope my expectations will meet the reality of it all.  I am betting we will be meeting him soon.

James, Casey, and Rowan are in Florida visiting Troy and Shannon for nine or ten days.  They flew there yesterday, and Rowan experienced his first flight.  He looked like he was having fun on the videos and pictures they shared.

We got our taxes done yesterday when we mailed our payment of $33.00 to Colorado.  It was a bit rough with TurboTax, but we managed.  Many of the online/tech support experts weren’t really experts, but we struggled through anyway.  I know we saved money by doing it this way.

Bev and Guy are coming here this month!  Bev said she and Adi might visit March 26th, and she also said all of Daryl’s family might join her because that is their spring break.  Then Guy texted a few days after that news to tell me he might come out when AnnMarie is going on a girls’ trip to New York.  Tara, her cousin, is getting married, and they are having her bachelorette party.  He said he would like to come on the 20th.  I was fine with it all.  Come on, sibs!  It will be great to see you come this way.

On to golf…

I played for the first time this season on Friday.  I invited Ed, because he asked me to let him know when I play.  He was skiing.  I asked Herman (both were last minute requests), but he was on his way to visit their son, Charles (not their real names).  I think that’s his name.

I only wanted to play nine holes, because I heard it was going to be windy in the afternoon.  It was.  I also wanted to get a feel for the state of my game.  I did.

Unlike what President Trump said about the state of the union being strong, the state of my game is…where it was after last season.  I scored six bogeys and a few other scores.  I was disappointed that I didn’t get at least one par.

The guys I played with were fine.  I played with Lee again, the guy who made lots of putts last time we played together.  I told him about that, and he hoped he would do it again.  He did not.

Two guys from Durango came to play, and their names are Fred and John.  Their games were as common as their names.  Neither of them really stood out to me, but they did get some pars, so they were better than I was that day.

It was great to get out again!  I told Fred and John that I might see them at Hillcrest due to my job, and they were hopeful we might bump into each other again.  They were very friendly.

Back to my game…I didn’t get off the tee box (no warm-up) until hole #3, and I didn’t get an approach off the ground until that same hole.  I took a “breakfast ball” on #1, too.  Wait, I hit a decent mulligan after that, but it just didn’t go very far.

My pitching was decent.  I didn’t flub any after such a long lay-off.  I got lower to the ground, and that really helped somehow.  I was most proud of my last two holes.  The wind was picking up more and more by those, and I got two of by bogeys on those, both of which were into the wind.

I still used the “flying thumb” on my drives, and those worked well once I started getting better contact.

I am optimistic about this season, and I know that better conditions will translate into better scoring, too.  The fairways and greens were dry and hard, so I know they will improve.

Until next time…
