Continued from last post...
Back to golf…
After a decent start with the bogey, I went downhill. So, did my bag and my umbrella. When it was time to start playing again, Michael gave me a ride back up to start hole #2. When we got closer to my clubs, I noticed they were not upright anymore. I didn’t pay attention too much, but I also didn’t hear any strong winds. Mostly, it was occasional lightning and thunder accompanied by some gentle rain.
I am getting a bit weary after a full week of caregiving, so I will continue this tomorrow…
Written on 9-18-26.
Either way, my bag was on its side, and my umbrella was a crumpled, soggy mess. Many of the metal joints were snapped. Bummer. I have already bought a new one on Amazon to replace it, and I used the new one the last time I played. It’s not as big, and it is more wind-resistant. I chose...
red and white this time instead of red and black. Hopefully, the white colors will help keep it cooler, too. After Herman left, I chose to play a game with Phil and Michael…in my head. With the remaining holes, I tried to use fewer strokes than each of them. Pretty simple. I ended up in second place with 36 strokes. Phil ended with 39. Michael was more consistent, and he scored a 34. I remember we were neck and neck for the last few holes. Then from around 100 yards out, he put an approach to one foot to get his par on #17. I managed a bogey with a well-played chip to two feet. We both got bogeys on the last hole, and that was how it concluded. I felt a need for something to help me stay motivated after Herman left.
I played at Riverview on 9-11, a week ago today. I texted Herman when I left Aztec to see if he could join me. It was a spontaneous, so I wasn’t sure if he would get there. Pinon was closed for the whole day due to a tournament, and I wanted to play at least once before the Bishop’s Classic. The tournament was supposed to be today, but it was postponed due to all of the rain we have had here this past week. We had also finished with a huge clean-up below our retaining wall. We had Tree Surgeon come to finish what we started. It was a lot of old branches that needed to be hauled away, and they helped us do that.
As I am writing this, a light rain is falling while the sun shines brightly. It’s the coolest paradox.
Herman and his son ended up coming, but I was on hole #4 when I saw them on hole #1. I had just teed off, and I happened to see them. He has an unmistakable strut, for sure. It has a style and swagger that is undeniable. It could also be from years of doing rodeo. Nobody was behind me, so I walked over to greet them, and they asked me to join them. I would have felt bad, and I was planning on playing (walking) all 18 holes, so I said no. Still, it was great to connect, and I was glad I had asked him to join me before I left.
I played better, and I kept my simple stats. I hit six fairways, three greens, and five one-putts, and no three-putts. I shot an 88. I had five pars, mostly on the par three holes. I constructed a nifty up and down for one of those on the second hole.
I felt mostly ready for the Classic. I wanted to do some speed training with my RypStick, too, but I did my workouts instead. I also worked on multiple projects while Jim was on vacation, and Belinda and I got a bunch of stuff done. Mostly, it included cleaning and waxing both vehicles (something we had not done for a couple of years), completing my annual trainings for work, and decluttering the garage while simultaneously planning for the garage remodel. I was happy with the work we got done with this small break from work. Oh, and we had that big sagebrush and chamiza clean-up done, too.
The Bishop’s Classic has been postponed until Friday, October 16th. I might get in some of that speed training now.
