A Serendipitous Return to the South Forty

Written on 7-24-22.

We are back, and it was super fun to go camping again after Covid.  We just love our camper!  It’s the best!  James and Casey just arrived home after attending Cory (last name's) wedding up here in Aztec.  B and I went, too, of course, and it was a great event.  They held it outside near Flora Vista and Farmington, and it was officiated by a friend of Cory’s who coached football with him in Artesia.  Or, maybe they played together?  He did a respectable job, and it all went smoothly.

It was hot.  Hot enough to feel a drip of sweat rolling down my back under my seersucker shirt.  It started at 6:30, so it steadily got cooler, especially after the sun went down.  They had Los Hermanito’s cater the reception, and B and I have always enjoyed their food, so that added great taste to the event.  We did some country dancing together at the reception, so it was like a date for us.  We had an opportunity to catch up with Craig and Tina (last name), because they sat at our table, too.  They both relayed some funny stories from their coaching and teaching careers.  All in all, a successful wedding for them and a super time for their guests.

On to golf…

I played at the South Forty Golf Course again, and it happened in a serendipitous way.  I had planned...

My First Time Playing After Covid

Written on 7-20-22.

We are up at Mancos State Park, and we just came back from dinner at Chavolo’s.  Yummy.  Eric brought up the dogs, and they stayed in the bed of their truck while we ate.  It was hot, but the dogs were in the shade, and so were we.  We took a short walk at the park behind the restaurant before Eric drove back.

Now, A and B are sitting with me in the shade of spot #16, digesting.  Full and happy.  Horses are in the field directly across the road that runs along our campground, too.  We are completely in shade now, and it’s getting cooler.

On to golf…

I played with C.J. and Hart at Hillcrest this morning, and that was the perfect warm-up after having recovered from Covid.  I believe I am completely over it…for now.  I haven’t tested, but I would bet that I am negative.

I played fairly awfully my first nine back, even though we played from the Golds, but then I played the other nine later with three other guys.  I made my first par on hole #7.  Hart and C.J. only played nine.  Hart invited us back again next week for another tee time, this time at 8:24.  We both said yes.

The back nine was better, but...

We Get Covid!

Written on 7-13-22.

I am at Farmington Lake, and the twins are paddle-boarding with Misty and Kody.  It took some convincing to get Kody up on the paddle board, but eventually he climbed aboard.  I am sitting and watching from our GMC.

I see that we planned to go to Lakewood for the Fixx Concert the last time I wrote.  Well, we did, and it was wonderful.  We had plenty of time to visit with Mom and Dad, and the concert was excellent.  Those guys sound so good.  Guy and I played nine holes at Foothills Golf Course on Monday, too.  It was fabulous!

The bummer part is that B got...

Bruce, Norm, and Riverview

Written on 6-22-22.

Bruce and Norm came over this AM to give Norm a chance to check out and play with our pitching area and putting green.  It was cool and cloudy, so we were never too hot, even though yesterday was the longest day of the year.  I did a lot of weed clean-up and blew off both areas before they came, and it all looked clean and crisp.  After B showed them our newly painted kitchen cupboards and the hope chest Bruce refinished for us years ago (still looks great), we played some games.

I won the first game of stroke play with pitches and putts.  It went to a play-off with just putting, and I made a long putt on hole #1.  Norm won the putting game with a putt to hole #2.  It was the “around the world” game that James came up with.  Bruce won the full swing game (no surprise there) with a smooth swing to a 2 x 4 that we stood up 100 yards away and just past the road.  It was all so relaxed, and I got the impression Bruce would like to come practice more often.  I just need to...
