It's so great to read this after Mom's passing. I am glad and relieved to see that we had this time together now. She passed on the day after Thanksgiving, and I need to write about it in here. Today is Christmas, and we came back from the funeral this past weekend. Sigh.
Written on 10-27-24.
I am on our bed again on a Sunday afternoon. B is futzing around while I am relaxing. She likes to get a few things done on Sundays. She scrubbed her paddle board, and I just saw her bring some conditioner into our new bathroom. Now, she is scrubbing Kody’s muddy paws in the new shower for the first time. He got into some muddy water, but he usually doesn’t do that.
I prefer to take it easy on Sundays, thus the...
writing. I see the next item on the list to write about is my visit with Mom at the beginning of this month. It was super! Amanda has said that it’s important to visit your parents while they are still “your parents”/themselves, and she still mostly is. Or, she was when I was there.Because I can still lift her from her bed or her chair to her wheelchair and vice-versa, I was able to get her to the dining hall twice and the community kitchen once. I also took her out on the deck to see the sunset a few times.
She can still have some clever, funny quips and puns, and I just love her so much. You only have one mother, and she is one of the best. I am thankful for our week and quality time together.
Guy came for the weekend, too, and we had four days together. Loved that, too. It was fun to hang with my brother and Mom. With both of us there, we got her out even more, and we had a big family get-together with the Gerbers and the Lamberts up at the community kitchen.
On to golf…
We planned to play on our Saturday together well before this trip, and it worked out that Paul (last name) and Carter could join us. We played at King’s Deer in Monument. The weather was warm, but it was windy at times. Not powerfully gusty, but windy. We started out on the back nine, and I was determined to show Paul I could play well. I was also excited to see how well he plays, because Guy has commented on how skilled he is.
I suggested best ball match play with Carter and I taking on Guy and Paul. All agreed, and we were off. I shot my best nine hole score of the season with one asterisk. On the first hole, my second shot on the par five landed in a large divot. Carter said to drop outside of it, so I did. I got a par from there, but I fully admitted what happened to the group as we were walking off the green. Paul and Guy were fine with it, so we ended up winning the first hole, and it continued from there in our favor.
On hole #11, Paul and I tied with pars. He had an amazing up and down from the green side bunker for his, and I used my putter to “chip” from the tall grass behind the green and then make a long putt for my par.
It was on hole #14 where I got my birdie. Will it be the last one of the season? I have my pinkie surgery coming up on November 13th, and the weather turns colder this week. We shall see.
King’s Deer Golf Course-Hole #14-Birdie #10 of 2024
If this turns out the be my last birdie, I would be okay with that. It’s been a decent season, and I’ve made it to double digits.
I used my driver, and we figured it was better to aim towards the right side to avoid trouble. The sun was in our eyes, but it looked good. I thought it might be short, because it hit a hill with thick grass.
It did. I used my utility club to lay up, and I got it to 148 yards out, according to the Arccos app. I chose my 6-iron, and this was the best swing for the hole…and the day. It soared directly at the target, and although I couldn’t see it land, I knew it was a great result.
The ball mark was near the hole, but my ball rolled to a spot past the hole 20 feet away. The greens were fast, so I was careful with the speed. It looked as if it wouldn’t make it for a time as it rolled, but it did. It splashed in for birdie #10 of the year. Bravo!
