Happy birthday, Becca! Becca would smile knowing she has made her way into my golf journal again. Today is her 19th birthday. Our other baby is continuing her adventure into adulthood by taking part in an immersive Spanish class that is in Costa Rica right now. We are so proud of all of our children. Kyle started an exclusive internship as a hardware engineer today, James is in New Zealand and loving life for his business/marketing major, and Danielle is working hard at her new job as crew leader to earn tons of money this summer.
I am back on Guy and Annmarie’s deck/patio, but this time I am all alone. Guy took ShyShay to violin practice, Annmarie has her cousin and client Tara over for a workout downstairs, and Belinda is taking a walk around the neighborhood. We fly out of here tomorrow at 12:32 to head back to Denver and then on to Durango where Danielle will pick us up, I hope. It will be great to see her again.
It’s been a...
relaxing, busy, productive, and funtastic trip. I completed the training and after Belinda came to pick me up, we’ve done nothing but fun stuff. Yesterday, we spent most of the day at ShyShay’s baseball event, an all-star game, and we got to see her in a contest where she could run the bases for a shot at the best time in her division. She took second this year, but who cares. She had already taken first place the past two years. Better to let those boys finally have a turn so they won’t cry. And, of course, we love Shylah more than any achievement she may or may not reach. It was exciting to watch her run the bases. She has such a smooth, long stride…for a second grader.
This morning, Belinda and I got up early to go to Great Falls National Park. Amanda and Eric bought us a National Parks Pass as a rewirement gift, so we had to take advantage of the nearest park while we were here. Annmarie recommended Great Falls, so off we went. We left really early for two reasons: we wanted to beat the traffic heading into town, and we wanted to be back in time for Guy and I to be able to get in 18 holes before a storm came in. Because we were so early (before 7:30 AM), we were the first car in the parking lot. We drove to the additional parking lot first and took a short walk on the trails above the falls. Then we headed towards the main attraction.

The park itself opened at 7:00, but the visitors’ center would not open until 10:00. We were done before 9:00. We passed viewing areas 1 and 2 and headed straight to 3. A lady walking her dog took our picture there. I took multiple pictures with my new “bonus points” camera. After viewing areas 1 and 2, we headed back. It was glorious! No crowds.
It’s considered a “trash free” park, but we were disappointed to see trash in many places, especially at viewing area 1. Yes, I understand what “trash free” really means (see below). We were sad and disgusted by the litter, but it didn’t completely tarnish our first adventure at a national park together. “Trash free” means that they have no trash cans. The idea is for people to cart out any trash they bring in. The park even provided bags for patrons, but obviously not all made use of them and not all carted out their trash.
Soon after Belinda and I returned, Guy and I left for the Herndon Valley Golf Course.
