Quick Summary of Three Recent Birdies

I have one more birdie to report on hole #18 when Rob (not his real name) and C.J. and I played together as a group for the first time recently.

Quick summary of my recent three birdies…

#18-Driver to #3, 8-iron to left side.  Eagle attempt to tie Rick with the G.I.R. game, but after putting from off the green, it stopped just to the right and below the hole, less than a foot away.

#9-Caught Rob with this birdie for the same game.  Driver over to a spot behind #12.  Would not have been O.B.  6-iron beauty that landed on the green and rolled past the hole (according to C.J).  My eagle attempt went short and to the right of the hole, leaving me 2.5 to 3 feet left for my birdie.  Mostly a straight putt.

#1-Driver to just to the right and short of the cottonwood.  5-iron low shot that ended up on the green.  Hole on top tier, but close to the ridge again.  Putt went to the right about 4 feet away.  Earned all the money on this hole for the beginning of the Escalating Skins Game.

Teacher Reunion and Avoiding a Skunk With C.J.

Written on 4-16-16.

I’m sitting on our couch near the stove, but the stove is off.  It’s a breezy, gloomy day outside, but it’s comfortable and warm in here, so I see no need to turn it on.  I’m watching the RBC Heritage with my Chromecast.  I had a Bisti Writing Project Reunion and Rally earlier this morning.  We have many exciting projects going on/coming up, including some Basic Skills workshops, and I’ve been asked to head those up as our project leader.
When it was over, I met with some McCoy teachers, some who have retired/rewired like Belinda and me and some who are still teaching, although maybe not at McCoy anymore.  It’s an ongoing thing where they meet every few months or so, but it varies.  This was the first one I was able to attend.  It was a small group of just five, and they were kind enough to sit and wait for me while I ate since I was an hour late after attending my Bisti meeting.  When I arrived, leftovers were boxed in styrofoam containers and empty plates and glasses littered the table along with some tips.  I gave them a reason to stick around and visit more, though.  We reminisced about some of the funny stories from years ago, and we laughed until our faces hurt.
We also talked about how we had so much more freedom when we...

The Masters at Chavolo's and First Eagle of the Year!

Written on 4-10-16.

I’m at Chavolo’s in Mancos, and I’m the only patron in here.  Danny Willet is the “in the clubhouse leader” for the Masters, and that’s the reason I’m sitting in this restaurant alone.  We brought a TV Eric had just bought up to the cabin, but we couldn’t get it to work.  I had painted a picture of watching the Masters up at the cabin, but that was smashed, so here I sit and watch and write…alone.
Jordan Spieth is putting for birdie on #16, the par three that Guy and I watched from the Masters green bleachers on a Saturday four years ago.  He’s missed, and he now has a long comeback for his par.  He made that one, but he still has two shots to tie for the lead and only two holes left to play.
Dustin Johnson just putted out on #18, and he finished at one under.  I still believe he will win a major someday.  Anyone who has come so close in so many other majors will certainly break through at some point; it’s all mental for him now.  He has the skills, for sure.  It reminds me of Payne Stewart before he finally got the monkey off of his back.
I have skills (nothing like the pros), too, but I have been humbled recently by getting beaten soundly by C.J.  His exemplary play definitely helped, but I did not play like I am capable either.  I won the first time we played the Reverse Handicap Game, but he liked that game so much he suggested we play it again, and that was the first time he beat me.  Then we played the “rubber match” on Friday, and he showed me he was the boss when it comes to “reverse handicapping” this time around.  I have the scorecards, so I will write about how he did it later.
Jordan just got a bogey on #17, so it’s a sure thing that Danny Willet is...

Great News Abounds on Holy Thursday

Written on 3-24-16.

It’s Holy Thursday, and I am watching the World Golf Championships as they stream on my Chromecast.  C.J. and I played 18 holes earlier today.
The great news abounds!  I made a new friend, scored five birdies and one eagle, started some new medication that works better for my asthma, earned a training in Las Cruces, shot two very decent scores, and beat my new friend and C.J.  Not that beating someone is a goal, but it helps to show how well I am playing.
I’m going to briefly summarize the birdies and the eagle to help me get them straight in my head.  Two birdies and the one eagle happened on Monday, the day I met Rob (not his real name), my new friend.
The other three birdies happened today when I played with C.J. during our...
