Back to Hillcrest and Playing Again

Written on 5-16-2020.

It’s a sleepy Saturday afternoon at the Swope house.  B and I got our one task done for the day, installing our new screen door in front of our French doors, and it looks and feels fabulous.  Amanda came over to check it out, and she responded in the best way.  She wonders why we didn’t we do this years ago?  It brings the outdoors in, and it really helps move the air for better ventilation.  It has a real quality feel to it, and it snaps solidly in the middle.  Why didn’t we do this earlier?  Probably money.  Glad we have it now.
B and I tried out the new FATMan Approved Restaurant for lunch today.  Just supporting local during this whole shutdown thing.  I played my Lumosity App again today, of course (doing my best to keep my streak going), and it said when I was finished that I have now played 66 days in a row.  I add two days to that number, like I have said before, and that gives us 68 days since this all began.  It probably will be another 68 days, too.  Although businesses all around the United States are beginning to reopen with restrictions and rules.  Will there be a second wave after that?  Only God knows.

On to golf…

I didn’t write the other day who won between Eric and me.  It was close.  He let me choose the game, so I chose stroke play.  I thought he should get six strokes, so I gave him pops on the three most difficult holes on the front and the back.  That turned out to be the right number, because he beat me by one stroke.  He shot a 104 to my 99, so he won this round.
If we had chosen the most long drives, he would have won that, too.  He outdrove me on #13, #14, and #18, and those are the ones that really stood out.  It’s possible there were more.  He drove it really well that day, and my drives were decent.
We had another little game we were playing, but we were working together on that one.  I guessed we could shoot a best ball score of 89.  We didn’t meet that goal, though.  We shot a 93.  We just weren’t as sharp as I thought we would be.
I am going to call Hillcrest again tomorrow to set up another tee time for next week.  Maybe this time, we will shoot a better score.  I also plan on watching an event with Dustin, Rory, Rickie, and some other guy tomorrow.  It’s a fundraiser for Covid-19.  I’ll write again while that’s going on.

Until tomorrow…

Quite an Honor and a Super Power Ranger

Written on 5-14-2020

Hello again! I am sitting out on our deck in one of the big blue and black cushy chairs, and it’s the middle of the afternoon.  My daily reminder just went off at 3:07, and it’s a beautiful, partly cloudy, mostly sunny day in the middle of May.
Belinda is coming home soon.  She just messaged me to ask if I can come pick her up at the Edgerton’s in an hour and a half.  They are just leaving the cabin.  Kody is lying down behind me, just chilling and taking in all of the sights and sounds around us.  I can hear the obnoxious sound of an ATV in the back hills, and he is surely surveying the surrounding area for silent lizards and rabbits.
The mama or the papa bird just delivered an insect snack to the its little baby birds, and there was much rejoicing and squawking/squealing.  We can just barely see their little yellow beaks peeking above the rim of the nest, opening and closing, and taking in the food.  It’s a reminder of the cycle that repeats every year.  They are a little less ugly than they were just two weeks ago.
When B gets home, we need to make a video right away for...

Mothers' Day Eve

Written on 5-8-2020.

Another week during the Covid-19 shut-down is coming to an end, and we are two days away from Mothers’ Day.  It’s a Friday night, and B, Kody, and I are staying in the Alto down by the river on the Edgerton’s property again.  One night is enough for us this weekend.  Two nights was a bit rough last time.  We just fire roasted brats and hot dogs with Eric and Amanda, and it was topped off with homemade ice cream cones.  Fun!
Eric texted me earlier to ask about playing at Hillcrest, so I spoke with him about it.  I will call for a tee time on Sunday.  I’m thrilled that he wants to go and play.
I just spent about an hour wasting my time on FB instead of writing in here, so I am going to bed now.  Why do I do it?  It’s mostly political, opinionated, and/or ridiculous.  I will write some more in the morning.

Until the morning…

5-10-2020

It’s Mothers’ Day now, and I completely didn’t write the morning after we stayed in the Alto.  We simply woke up and headed home right away, and then we got busy with stuff.  I don’t know what the stuff is right now, but I just know I didn’t write.
Now I remember.  Belinda and I...

A Swish of Kody's Tail = New MacBook Air

Written on 4-26-2020.

Belinda, Kody, and I are still at the cabin on a Sunday, and it’s glorious.  I am watching a previously recorded telecast of the Zurich New Orleans Classic, and during the commercials I change over to Steel Magnolias.  Kody is asleep on the floor in front of the couch, and Belinda is propped up on the couch reading a book on her iPad.
We head back home this evening, and I won’t look forward to that.  Leaving the cabin is always more difficult and depressing than going to the cabin.
I forgot to mention yesterday that we have a new computer/laptop.  During the event #hackthecrisis that James was hosting, Belinda set her glass of water and ice on the coffee table near our old MacBook Pro, and you can guess what happened. It was Kody’s tail that knocked it over, and although the glass was halfway empty, it caused enough damage to ruin the motherboard.
We really shouldn’t have attempted to turn it back on.  Danielle had said that, and we should have listened.  That might have saved it if we had left it alone, but now we will never know.
I am typing this on a brand new...
