Memorial Day Becomes Familial Day!

Written on 5-27-26.

I have been busy.  I’ve been working, and that now includes the eBay stuff.  It’s not really work, but it keeps me busy at times.  I had to deal with the sale of some of our cameras this month.  We sold our two Canon digital cameras, and we also sold Dale's Nikon camera with all of its extra lenses.  That was a cool item.

We had some problems with the lesser expensive Canon.  The buyer found some scratches on the lens, so I just sent him a refund tonight.  I’ve enjoyed learning about eBay.  I like the challenge of learning something new.  Just like the garage sales we have had, it’s great to get rid of stuff we don’t want and get some cash for it, also.

We just had all the kids here for Memorial Day weekend.  We were able to spend lots of time with our little man.  He is walking everywhere now.  We took him to the splash pad here, but it ended up being just a warm-up this time.  Later, I know he will enjoy it more.

I never got to see...

Matt, Becca, and Benny, though.  Matt raced in the Iron Horse again, so we just didn’t cross paths.  I could have gone to go see them after Rowan went down, but I chose to stay with Belinda instead.

James and I got to see the new Mandalorian and Grogu movie on Sunday.  We thought it was great!  Pure Star Wars entertainment.  Hopefully, it will do well.  It has gotten mixed reviews, however.

James and Casey went up to Vallecito, and Rob and Danielle stayed at the "Red Shed."  Rob and Danielle did some fishing on Sunday, too.  Danielle had some success, and they hired a guide to make it easier.  I know Rob was proud of her, and he shared a video of one of her catches.  It was a long, hot day on the river for them, though.  They were exhausted.  Jess came up for dinner and met Rob for the first time.  She had many questions for him, but he didn’t mind.  Danielle had prepped him for it.

We also got to meet Kyle’s new girlfriend, Mel, short for Melinda.  What a super friendly and positive girl.  They make a wonderful pair.

I am continuing my Star Wars trading cards project, and I have made some more purchases.  One of the better ones included 18 unopened Empire Strikes Back wax packs, six from each series.  I have only opened three of them while James watched on a FaceTime call.  They look incredible and crisp.  I am very happy, and I still have more to open.

On to golf…

Every time I have reached out to Herman, not his real name, (okay, it has only been three times) to see if he could play with me on a Friday after four days of work has been a bust.  He said he was going to Phoenix this last time to watch a grandson play soccer.  It’s not like I haven’t tried.

I did get to play, however, when we went camping at the Villanueva State Park, east of Santa Fe.  Greg brought his brand new set of golf clubs (his old set was stolen from the Hillcrest storage area), and I brought my set, too.  Eric and Tink chose not to bring theirs, so it was just the two of us.  We chose to play in Las Vegas, because it was less than an hour away.

We had one hiccup.  When I put the golf course into Apple Maps, it took us in the opposite direction.  Greg said he was surprised we were going that direction, but we continued anyway.  After an hour of driving and catching up (he and I like to talk), we ended up at Cline’s Corners on I-40.  When the GPS said we had arrived at our destination, I looked out my window only to see the Subway sign at the gas station there.  Good grief.

We chose to drive all the way back past our campground to play nine holes at the course we had intended to play, the Gene Torres Golf Course.

Continued next time…
