A & B Turn 58!

Written on 12-21-25.

Belinda’s birthday is tomorrow, and she and Amanda will be turning 58.  More than likely, we will go to Los Hermanito’s, and she made her own chocolate cake with her special sugary, crystal-ly Crisco frosting.  Actually, she made two cakes, because we said we would bring dessert to Po-Ke-No tonight at Kelly and Rocky’s house.  The Edgertons are dogging us this year.  Their loss.  More prizes for us.  We complain a bit before we go, but we always have a wonderful time.

I am working on a project with...

my old Star Wars trading cards.  It’s been a lot of research so far, and I am trying to figure out whether to have some of them protected and graded by sending them to a grading company.  The Luke Skywalker “rookie” card from Series 1 in 1977 has been fetching some outrageous prices.  Mine, unfortunately, has creases in it due to the 3-ring binder it was in.  It was right next to the “ring” on the left side, and it was bent over it multiple times.  Bummer.

I still have some others (rookies and stickers), though, that are really in excellent or nearly mint condition, so I am working out what to do with those.  It’s a little stressful.  It has been fun, too.  I always get a nostalgic endorphin kick when I break them out and look at them.  It’s a project that James and I have been bonding over, too.

Back to golf…

I started well by matching his par on #1.  We both hit the fairway and the green, but my first putt was farther away.

I managed a bogey on the next hole, and he got another par.  That was the extent of my staying close to him.  I steadily got farther away from him (and par) after that, but it was great to get out and play again.

He earned an unlikely birdie on hole #5.  He was just off the green on the left lower tier, and the hole was on the upper tier.  He chose to putt, and it rolled all the way up and into the hole!  I was on the green, but I triple-putted for another bogey.  Argh.

I told him about my journal and how I had kept track of how many birdies I had earned since I started playing golf.  I couldn’t remember how many (shows how important they are), and he teased me that I should be able to remember a low number.

I did know how many eagles I thought I had (24), but I guessed twelve.  Better to start low, I thought.  I asked if he had any double eagles, and he hadn’t.  I told him I was so disappointed in him.  We laughed.

I had my best chance for another birdie on the next hole.  My ball was right of the hole and a little past it.  The hole was way over on the left side, and it was barely visible from the teeing ground.  From 30 feet away, I missed my putt by three inches.  I would be so happy to get to double digits before the end of this year (I have eight birdies), but it’s not looking too good.  I might get some if I play in Albuquerque after Christmas.

Okay, off to Po-Ke-No.

Until next time…
