Cameron Continues His Consistent Play and I Get Another Birdie

Written on 4-26-13.

I earned another birdie a couple of rounds ago.  This past Sunday, though, Cameron played the best nine holes I’ve ever seen him play; he shot even par just like C.J. did, and it was on the front nine, too.  He had two birdies and two bogeys, also just like C.J. had done it.  Bruce and C.J. took us on again in a best ball match, but it was more like they were taking on just Cameron.  I was there in spirit, enjoying another Cameron show.  He is playing really well right now.  He shot a 75 the time before.
I had a fantastic start that fizzled.  We played #1 and #3 while we waited for C.J. to join us.  I got two pars.  When we started over, I got a bogey on hole #1, but it was partly because my tee shot ended up nestled in the taller grass just behind the cottonwood in the middle of the fairway, and I had to pitch out sideways and backwards a bit.  Then I got...

two more pars, a bogey and another par on #5.  The rest of the round, well, it was not so good, but what a fun start.  My par on #2 got us back to even after Bruce had birdied #1, and my par matched Cameron’s par on #3 to help us go one up, but it was all Cameron after that.  We ended up winning 3 and 2.
Last Friday, I earned that birdie I mentioned above, and it was during the “points” game that Bruce is so good at because he is so consistent at hitting fairways and greens in regulation.  I got closer to his score with this birdie, though.

Hidden Valley Golf Course-Hole #15-Birdie #10 of 2013

Bruce had already scored 22 points by the time we got to this hole, which included a swell birdie on #13.  I had earned 5 points on #14, and C.J. hadn’t even gotten on the board yet.
I teed off with my 8-iron like I usually do, and my ball barely stayed on the fairway way over on the right side, but that’s the way I like it.  I prefer a full swing in.  My pitching wedge flew my ball high enough to hit the green before the flag (kind of in the middle on the left side this time), roll past it, but it still stayed on the green.  I had about 18 feet or so that was slightly downhill.  When my ball went in the hole it was moving fast, so I was glad to see that the hole had gotten in the way.  Getting this birdie gave me 11 points, but Bruce had earned 6 on his own, so I only gained 5 on him.

I was the only one to hit the green on #16 and get a par, so I won another 8 points, but Bruce matched that right away on hole #17.  I had a chance to win it all on the last hole, but I got a double and blew my opportunity.  Bruce ended up winning 31 to 24 to 12.  C.J. earned points on #15 and #17.  He was the only one to win points on #17.  It was a fun match, and I was proud that I had made a charge.
I play with Cameron again tomorrow at nine.  I need to go to sleep and get my rest.  It’s been a busy week, and the rest of the year will continue to get busier and crazier as we go along.

Until next time...
