Bathroom Remodel = Other Expenses

Written on 8-21-24.

I can hear drilling and banging going on inside our house.  I am out on the front porch with Kody, and it’s cool enough to sit out here today.  I just checked the temperature, and it says it’s 85º, but it feels like 83º.  We will see how long we last out here, though.  It’s starting to warm up.

Our bathroom remodel is continuing, and it has expanded to other projects that must get done.  For example, Nate wanted to avoid...

piercing our in-floor heating system water pipes in the concrete (that was nice of him) when he got ready to cut the new drain for the shower.  I turned on the heating system like we always do, but it went…clunk.  After 25+ years, it failed, so we had Nate’s plumber check it out.  Of course, it needs updating and repairs, so we are tacking on a new expense of around $1.000.00.  It ended up being $1800.00.  Yikes!  The plus side is that we got away without servicing it for all those years, and it didn’t blow up.

Back to the bathroom, they have finished the demolition and they have built the frames for walls for the new shower.  Today, they are working on digging out the cavity for the medicine cabinet.  That is the only part that we are recycling from the “old” bathroom, but it is getting sunk back into the wall to make more room.  I just walked in to check on everything and they have begun to do the sheet rock around the shower now, also.  Things are moving right along.

It got warm, so Kody and I moved inside again.

On to golf…

I played golf with Herman (not his real name) the past two times, once at Pinon and once at Riverview.  I did okay.  I did get a birdie during the round at Pinon.

Pinon Hills Golf Course-Hole #3-Birdie #7 of 2024

I used my Ping driver off the tee.  Herman used his 3-wood.  When we play the whites, he never uses his driver on this hole.  I still ended up 15-20 yards behind him.  He was just ahead of the 150-yard marker, and I was on the fairway right of his ball.  I chose my 5-iron/utility club.  I am really beginning to gain confidence with that thing.  My ball went to the right of the pin, which was on the front right section this time.  Using the relaxed, true swing, I swung a great shot.  It bounced to the left and stopped on the green five feet away from the cup.  Although Herman's ball was closer than mine, his approach ended up way over on the left side of the green.  He made an incredible first putt in order to secure his par.  It barely missed, curling just past the hole after it rolled down the slope.

After he finished, I lined up my putt, and it looked pretty simple.  It was uphill and straight.  It rolled into the hole with some pace, so I know I put enough speed into it.  It was so wonderful to score a birdie when Herman earned a par.

My scoring wasn’t great.  I scored a 96 at Pinon, but I course-corrected for a 90 at Riverview.  When we played at Pinon, I hadn’t played for three weeks, so I shot a 50 and then a 46, both on the front nine.  It felt good to get back into the “swing” of things on the second nine holes.  Herman shot an 81 at Riverview, but his back has been really stiff and bothering him.  He wants to keep playing to loosen it up.  He said that to his wife, Cindy (not her real name), on his phone, and she said to him, “Whatever.”

That’s funny to me.  I got to meet her for the first time after the round at Riverview.  We played there yesterday, because they were sanding and aerating the greens at Pinon.  It only cost $20.00, and it was super to play somewhere else.  We went out to the Lauter Haus, and it was great to finally meet her.

I shot a 45, 45 for the 90 from the blues at Riverview.  I only needed to eliminate a few of the doubles and my one triple to score more like I know I can.  I struggled three times to get off the box with my driver, which was weird.  That didn’t help.

Until next time…
